The Twitter Debate

To tweet or not to tweet, that is the question.

PRO Twitter:  Matt at FBIHOP makes a strong case for the utility of Twitter – (How I use Twitter).

CON Twitter:  But then there’s this short vid on youtube –“Trouble with Twitter.”

I tweet, therefore I am.

  1. I am going to Twoat a Quote about Tweeting on my Facebook and Myspace page; right after I get done writing it on my Twitter account.

  2. Well, Matt convinced me awhile ago to Twitter and it’s very helpful in tracking headlines and the odd, once-in-awhile witty Tweets of those I follow. (Matt is my unofficial technical advisor.) It’s also a great way to get more attention for your own blog posts. BUT, it’s only one tool in the toolbox. I haven’t yet come to the conclusion that it’s the end of the world as we know it OR the savior of the web. Someplace in between!

  3. Whenever something new takes off, there’s always a hater to make a flash video. I’m not sure he ever actually points out what the trouble it.

My Twitter is connected to my Facebook status, so I don’t have to worry about updating oth. Sometimes I post inane social debris, sometimes I post unimportant updates about my mental state, sometimes I tweet important events–like the first open conference committee. Sometimes I just alert people to new blog posts.

It seems to work out just fine. The site gets hits, people comment, and it makes for decent dynamic content on the ol’ web sites (http://sfreeper.com and http://maassive.com)

  4. Also, I’m trying to convince Santa Fe City Councilor Patti Bushee to get to tweeting…. Why, she asked? Because, I said, you can alert folks to committees, community meetings and other events that we should know about. It’s less irritating than a spam email.

  5. For the record, I thought that video was pretty funny. But I think it is an example of the views of someone who kind of understands Twitter, but not really.

  6. Matt – Really? Well, maybe the whale.

I think the ultimate argument/point is that if you want to mass communicate, you go to the appropriate medium/platform.

Twitter’s just a really useful medium….ultimately, just an RSS feed with a 140-word restriction.
